"The Quiet Voice" is the third single from Alex's upcoming project Permission, a cross-disciplinary project combining the narrative elements of a concept album with a memory-driven listening and tasting live experience. Permission offers a direct, honest, and at times uncomfortable conversation around what it means for a person of color to take up space in America.

"I originally wrote this song back in 2018 because I was exhausted by the toxic, tired definition of power our culture (and the current administration at the time) seemed to celebrate… equating it with who could be the biggest bully, who could puff out their chest the most and be the loudest person in the room… and with the unquenchable need to dominate others to feel powerful. To me those things were the opposite of true power. In fact they all felt like telltale traits of someone who actually had very little."
